Egbe Obayori Okunrin Akile Ijebu (Kuye) Suspends Azuri ......Picks Akogun Wale Raji Anomo As New Giwa

The once bubbly age group, Egbe Obayori Okunrin Akile Ijebu (Kuye), otherwise known as Regberegbe in Ijebuland is at present bedeviled with internal crisis.

According to the insider,  the former Giwa of the age group,  Alhaji Suraju Lasisi, prominently known in the Ijebu social circle as Azuri has been booted out.

Findings revealed that Azuri, who spent his fortunes in making the Regberegbe a subject of reckoning was sacked due to an intractable issues he was having with the anti corruption agency.

It was further gathered that Azuri has been replaced with a new Giwa, Hon. Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, the Chairman of Ikosi/ Ejinrin LCDA in Lagos state.

Alhaji Kabir Animashaun who spoke on the development, however berated the move of the group,  stressing that those who initiated the move to oust Azuri should have waited for his conviction before his removal as the Giwa of the Age-group.

A close source to the group told this magazine that some of the loyalists of the ousted Giwa have now poised for a showdown with the new leadership of the Regberegbe headed by Akogun Wale Raji Anomo.

A 63yr old man who wondered  why the group was in a haste in removing the former Giwa who he said, spearheaded the group official recognition to the palace of the paramount ruler and Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.

“Azuri did everything humanly possible in making the group one of the best in Ijebuland, The Giwa who was a man of many parts was subjected to ridicule and humiliation by his sudden exit from the group”. Alh Animashaun added.

Meanwhile, the image maker of the Age-group, Yori Comrade Akeem Temitope Akilo, he narrated that, “Of course, there’s a new development concerning the leadership of our Egbe. The development as it affects the Giwaship position of our dear Egbe, a crucial stakeholders meeting was held with our Baba Egbe where all critical stakeholders were present, hence the resolution were unanimously agreed to select a new Giwa for the Egbe.

It is therefore pertinent for us that we should appoint a new Giwa that will lead the Egbe to pay homage and show respect to His Royal Majesty, the Awujale of Ijebuland, at the forthcoming 2022 edition of Ojude Oba festival, and consequently take charge of the leadership and administration of day to day business operation of the Egbe.

On the report that there was internal wrangling between the group, Akillo said, “That is not true! It is a total ruse by rumour-mongers. We don’t have crisis in our Egbe for God sake. The decision to select a new Giwa was a unanimous decision by all members. So, if the decision was unanimous, then, there can never be any showdown from anywhere. The selection/election process went well. It was a  keenly contest by 3 prominent members of the Egbe, though one later stepped down from the race. Two went for the race, and the winner emerged. The new Giwa, Akogun Wale Raji Anomo coast home to victory.

His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, Ogbagba ll, The Awujale & Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland has approved the selection of Giwa, Akogun Wale Raji Anomo. The new Giwa has addressed all members of the Egbe. He has presented his blueprint/agenda for the restructuring and rebranding of Egbe Obayori to the stakeholders and the entire Omo Egbe. This is in line with his bid to reposition the Egbe to take back her rightful position in the comity of Ijebu Regberegbe-In-Council,” Akilo concluded.
